Isaac McCaslin was born in 1989 in Mississippi, raised in Louisiana, and in 2013 received his B.F.A. in Painting at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia.
In Savannah, McCaslin received regional, national, and international awards such as the London International Creative Competition’s Talent of the Year Award in 2011 and he was the winner of the Greenpoint Gallery’s National Juried Art Competition in New York in 2015. He used the support from his various successes to open a studio in Savannah where he contributed to community art events. Then in 2015-2016 Isaac McCaslin was awarded the Artist Residency Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts where he resided for 7 months. He exhibited in various fine arts festivals, galleries, and museums up and down the east coast, and his work has been acquired into private, corporate, and museum collections.
About the Art:
Things will deteriorate and change, so when grasping for meaning, I hold onto my brush knowing my perceptions are transient but perhaps not as transient as my perceptions made into paint. This struggle to derive meaning from the cyclical forces of chaos and order is timeless, the timelessness connects me to the art historical traditions. The struggle occurs within the heart and soul of my art making process. It occurs within my body and my society. It is the human condition.
